Using energy more efficiently is the fastest and most cost effective way of cutting carbon dioxide emissions. The Energy Efficiency Directive 2012 (EED) aims to bring about a 20% reduction in energy use across the EU.
Government is looking to encourage and enable action by both businesses and individuals by providing the right information and ensuring that the necessary regulatory framework is in place.
Import duty on energy efficient lighting has already been removed and further key actions planned include the revision of billing to provide more information to end consumers and a revision of the energy performance standards for buildings.
